Travertine marble installed on exterior wall cladding: Safe OR Not

Where is travertine mostly installed?

Travertine is a naturally occurring marble that is commonly used for flooring and wall cladding. It is one of the natural stones which is used for paving garden paths and patios. It is known as travertine marble or travertine limestones. Travertine is most frequently used in modern architecture. It is commonly used for wall cladding, facades, and flooring. Travertine in Delhi comes in a variety of colors with a shiny finish and smooth surfaces. It is available in tile size for the installation of floors.

Where it should not be installed, and why?

If the travertine marble is unpolished in the case of flooring, they can easily trap dirt, and it may become difficult to clean in the future.

Polished travertine can be slippery, which cannot be used in the kitchen or bathrooms. It is advised that Travertine marble should not be used if you have pets or younger children at your house.

Travertine marble is porous, so the rainwater will seep in. So the marble should be sealed at regular intervals. You can use an overhang to protect it from rain, but again it's better to be sealed.

Do's and don'ts for travertine installation.

Travertine is durable and a low maintenance stone, but you need to know how to take care of it. So here are some do’s and don'ts for the stone:

Do's

- It doesn’t matter how durable or resistant to damage marble is. As soon as you install the travertine, you should have them sealed. Sealed stone will keep out water and block the crannies and natural nooks in the stones. The sealant will help to keep out dirt and dust, which can discolor the stone over time.

- Mop the travertine marbles regularly, which helps to keep them free from accumulating dust and dirt. Map the area once a week, and if you got more foot traffic, then mop the area more. There is no need for a special item to mop the pavers: just some clean, soft mop and a basic cleaner with water.

- Cleaning up spills immediately is the best way. Even plain water can get far down into the travertine, eventually which carries dirt with it. So clean it as soon as possible.

Don’ts

- If you don't use the best quality sealant, you will have quick damage or discolored stone. You can't just use a low-quality sealant that will not do the expected job. The better the sealant, the better the protection will be.

- When you notice discoloration in your travertine, you may be tempted to use harsh cleaners like vinegar, bleach, or other materials that contain citrus, which you think will get the marks out, but actually, it will damage your stone. These can discolor or wear the stone down. So clean it with water or mild soap.

- Grouts help to protect the stone and enhance stone beauty. But if the grout is dirty, there may be a chance that the sealant is worn down. Make sure to clean and seal the grout regularly.
